The Lone Star Sounds
The Mavericks are continuing to push forward following the loss of legendary frontman Raul Malo, announcing four Texas tour stops as part of their latest national run.
The veteran group will perform Aug. 7 at ACL Live at The Moody Theater in Austin, Aug. 8 at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas, Sept. 18 at House of Blues in Houston and Sept. 19 at John T. Floore Country Store in Helotes while honoring the musical legacy Malo helped build over more than three decades.
For years, The Mavericks carved out a Grammy-winning sound blending country, rock & roll, Tex-Mex, Cuban grooves and Latin swagger into something uniquely their own.
Malo, whose booming voice was once described by Rolling Stone as “operatic, spiritual, casually elegant and wholly captivating,” helped turn the band into one of the most respected genre-bending acts in American roots music.
The band first broke through nationally during the 1990s with hits including All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down and What a Crying Shame, while building a particularly loyal following across Texas thanks to their Tex-Mex influences and dancehall-ready sound.
A battle with cancer forced Malo off the road in 2025, but surviving members of the band say his spirit and influence remain central to every performance.
Now touring as “The Mavericks & Friends,” the group plans to celebrate Malo’s music with rotating guest singers and a setlist spanning multiple eras of the band’s career.
Longtime guitarist Eddie Perez said the shows are designed to honor the songs and the fans who helped make them endure, while drummer Paul Deakin described the new tour as “a moving musical art piece” that may look different every night depending on the guest performers involved.
The band continues touring behind its recent album Moon & Stars while also revisiting fan favorites including Come Unto Me, Back In Your Arms Again and As Long As There’s Loving Tonight.
