Anthony Enriquez, guitarist, songwriter and co-founder of the Texas country duo Shotgun Rider, has died at the age of 36.
The news was confirmed this week by multiple Texas music outlets. A cause of death has not been publicly released.
Enriquez grew up in Dimmitt, Texas, and became known to Texas music fans through Shotgun Rider, the band he formed with Logan Samford in 2012. The duo built a loyal following across Texas and Oklahoma with a blend of traditional country music and modern Red Dirt influences.
Shotgun Rider released several EPs and the 2018 album “Palo Duro,” producing fan favorites that helped establish the group as a fixture on the Texas music circuit. The band parted ways in 2019, but Enriquez remained active as a songwriter and musician.
Among his songwriting credits was “Boots,” recorded by Aaron Watson for Watson’s 2021 album “American Soul.”
Following news of his death, tributes from fellow musicians, industry professionals and fans began appearing across social media, remembering Enriquez for both his musical talents and his contributions to the Texas music community.
